Vahagni Trio at The Tower Theater for the Performing Arts
About the Artist:
As one of the newest voices in Instrumental music, Vahagni has been bending the genres of Flamenco, Jazz, and World music to create a unique style of his own. With multiple awards, 5 star reviews and a consistent, forward motion career, Vahagni continuously takes his music to new heights.
Born in Yerevan, Armenia and a local of Los Angeles since he was six years of age, Vahagni’s musical development began with his father, a world-renowned classical guitarist, Srakis Turgutyan.
He continued his studies in Andalucia, Spain under the guidance of world famous Flamenco guitarist Paco Serrano and spent over two years mastering his craft, and participating in numerous Festivals in Andalusia. During the” Cursos Superior del Guitarra Flamenca” held in Malaga, Vahagni got the opportunity to play for his childhood idol and legendary Flamenco guitarist, Manolo Sanlucar. It was Vahagni's original and unique sound that impressed the maestro, which led to a rare offer to study as a disciple of Sanlucar, before returning to the States to embark on his professional career.
Upon returning to the United States, Vahagni has recorded three studio albums.” Short Stories” in 2008, “Solitude” in 2011, and “Broken Compass” in 2012.
Vahagni’s groundbreaking releases introduce him not only as a composer and guitar virtuoso but a pioneer in new World Music. By exceeding the boundaries, Vahagni’s music is a blend of multiple ingredients, which captivates listeners of all demographics.
Vahagni has been nominated for the Hollywood Music in Media awards, JPF Music Awards and was the winner of the 2010 AMA Awards for Guitar album of the year.
Vahagni has invited to perform on this special night, Spanish dancer Ricardo Ramirez and dancers from his "Academia de Arte Flamenco Dance Studio" located in the historic Tower District.
